Alpha Phi Omega
Alpha Phi Omega (APO) is a national, co-ed service fraternity dedicated to the principles of Leadership, Friendship, and Service. The George Mason chapter is known as Alpha Delta Delta
(ADD). The fraternity as a whole was founded on Dec. 16, 1925 by Frank Reed Horton atLafayette College in Easton, PA. ADD was founded in 1993 and today provides a community for men and women interested in providing service to their chapter, school, community, and nation.
This chapter accepts pledges twice a year: once in the fall and once in the spring. The pledging process has several steps (more of which can be found on the chapter website in the references section), but it essentially prepares each pledge for the responsibilities and understanding that come with brotherhood. Aside from individual requirements, the pledges must also form a "class" in which they engage in small projects to teach them the nuts and bolts of planning service, social, and fundraising events. As any brother can tell you, pledging is a challenging process, but also crucial for any new member who wishes to truely become a unique part of our fraternity.
The ADD chapter does not condone any form of hazing or the mistreatment of either pledges or brothers. Also, this chapter is a dry chapter, meaning that the consumption of alcohol is not permitted while brothers or pledges are taking part in an APO function or wearing APO letters.
