Bench Decorating
Spirit Bench
Every summer at Orientation, the incoming members of the freshman class sign their names on a picnic bench, located outside the Students Activities offices, indicating their class year. Students often eat and hang out at the bench, and during Family Weekend, they often get their pictures taken on the bench.
Student Organization Benches
The student organization benches are located on the Quad between SUB I and Fenwick Library. Every spring, recognized student organizations may apply to paint a bench. The benches provide an excellent opportunity for student organizations to recruit new members and promote campus activity at George Mason. Over the years, the process has become extremely competitive, attracting approximately 60 applicants for the 29 available benches. The selected groups paint their benches in April after Mason Day.
