Students for Justice in Palestine

Taken from the SJP website.

About Us:
Students for Justice in Palestine began as the efforts of a few freshmen who felt that there was a void to fill in our campus community. Our efforts to organize educational events on Palestinian issues began in the Fall of 2002 under the sponsorship of other student organizations. In the Fall of 2004, SJP was established as an officially recognized student organization and has since been one of the most active student organizations on campus.

Our Vision:
Students for Justice in Palestine envisions a world where humans are treated equally with respect and dignity; where people live without the oppression of foreign occupation. We envision a world where justice and the rule of law bind humans together. We envision that one day, Palestinians will be free from occupation, free from fear, free from poverty, and will be able to determine their own fate as an independent nation living peacefully with its neighbors. Fully cognizant of the realities on the ground, we will nonetheless continue our work and keep in mind what Elie Wiesel once said, “There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest.”
Our Mission:
We believe that our mission as students living in a free democracy is to promote the cause of justice and speak out against oppression. We will work to educate members of our community specifically about the plight of the Palestinian people. We will raise awareness about this issue and provide students with an alternative resource of information to the mainstream media. We will also work to provide a comfortable environment where students and faculty can discuss and debate their diverse views on the various aspects of Palestinian politics and society.
