As recipients of the University's largest merit-based scholarship, Scholars are selected not only for a strong academic records, but also rewarded for their roles of leadership in their extracurricular activities. Once they arrive at Mason, new Scholars take UNIV 100 together in order to become a closer knit group. New Scholars are also brought into the Scholar community, which is comprised of all four years of Scholars attending the University. Together the Scholars organize group service projects, attend special events to further their college experiences, and go on a retreat every semester to cement their bonds as Scholars.
